My country
Penang Truly has it all
Take some time and watch this clip. It summarizes the amazing Penang!
I LOVE PENANG!!
I am so proud to be penangite and share it with the world! Not only that, New York Times has nominated Penang as one of the 44 Destinations in the world to visit for 2009.
Based on New York Times own recommendation, Penang is currently ranked at 22nd.
This is open for the world population to vote their recommendation!
Let’s do our small part to create visibility for Penang and cast your votes at http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/01/11/travel/20090111_DESTINATIONS.html
Please help to spread the words around!
White Water Rafting & 1/4 Suplex
Woohoo~ Another part of my super fulfilling weekend. So many photos.
Desmond-T had already done a fabulously write-up on our experience, so hop over for a very information-pack post on it. I, on the other hand, will just note down those more memorable stuff on my own blog.
It was an early Saturday morning for all of us. Sg.Sedim is indeed a very “ulu” place. Well, not ulu, how to sustain the natural green environment nowadays? After about an hour of drive, we finally reach the place. Sleepy face everyone.
We decided to water raft straight away as it will take us around 2hours. Empty stomach here we go~
I wanted to chicken out at first because everyone’s has been telling me how dangerous and life threatening the sport is. Plus, I do not want to turn up at the dinner i was attending in the evening with bandages and plaster all over. Definitely not~ But i end up joining the guys~ and damn, am i glad i did.
It was an adventurous, and exhilarating experience. Prior to our adventure, we need to have the water confidence test. Heheh..Photo photo la dulu kan.. not everyday we get to take photo in lifejacket and helmets.
Me. making a splash. As usual, i scream all the way down. I’m afraid of heights wan okie.
The whole journey was driven by the adrenaline pumping within us. This is the most dangerous drop we encountered. Elbow Falls. Level 3.5/4. To estimate the height of this waterfall, you see the guy standing on the rock? He’s about 1.7m so you do the math!! Pretty high up huh! and it’s like we need to freefall from there.
A video of my raft going down. You can hear me screaming all the way. expected la
Anyway, my point is, in spite of the level of danger we are facing, i noticed that I still have not lost my sense of lenses pointing towards my directions.
Evidence #1.
Evidence #2.
Natural born camwhore
Back to the rafting, this is where Desmond and Sweeheng flung out of the raft and into the water.
The only 2 girls in this trip.
At the end of the day, no one was injured at least seriously. And we had the greatest fun together. I’m terribly proud that i went through all this. When i got back, only did i know that Sg.Sedim is actually fucking dangerous. Like Christal knew 3 people that hit their head while rafting because of how the rocks are =.=
This change to Suplex was a success!!
Penang World Music Festival 2008
Out of the 3 days the festival was held, i only managed to attend the last day which is on Sunday. Tickets of RM50 was abit expensive to me however after attending the festival for less than an hour, I already regret the decision of not going for Friday and Saturday and made decision to attend the one held next year.
At first i thought it would rain since it did earlier on Sunday, but i was persistent on going, rain or shine. Fearing the worse from the weather and the crowd, we went early equip with umbrella and newspapers(to sit on). I was very impressed by how organized the whole event was. They have vans shuttling people from youth park to botanical garden, to prevent jam at the 2 lane road. Kudos on that!
The first performer of the night, Techung from Tibet but born in India, raised in America. It’s a very mountain-ny kind of genre. It’s something really different. Just look at the natural backdrop that sheer curtains and lightning can create.
The next one, which is also my favorite act of the night. Balfa Tuojours from USA but sings in french. They have a fiddler and accordion as well. Very country kinda music and super lively. I Likey! They had the crowd all hype up and dancing. I was clapping along their whole performance : ))
Next up is
LO COR DE LA PLANA from France. The group that sang about LOVE, which they pronounced as LOAF. They are good. Acapella groups and percussionists. The last song they performed was actually a Christmas song. Yea, they wished Merry Christmas to us in May -__- however, it sound more like a war song to us. HAAHAAHAHAThe quirky and the weirdest of all, AFENGINN from Denmark. They had a member that’s dressed in pink with long dreadlocks. What would you think?
They also made us do an action which is shouting “Ooompah!!!!” while pumping ur fist into the air. Which reminds me of ommpa lompa marching =___=
Final performance of the night was Kenge Kenge from Kenya. Oh my, they can all shake their booty real fine..ahahah… better than beyonce in her “uh oh uh oh” video. Watch the video below.
The finale where most of the performers from all 3 days came out for the final ovation from the crowd.
In a nut shell, the venue was brilliant, cooling with all the trees around us, the performers was awesome, the crowd was great, people smiling and enjoying moments of it, no matter young or old. With a great company, you will never go wrong in such rare event.
See you there, 2009.
Another merdeka night…
To be frank, what is there to celebrate?
Except for the glorious food that the various culture has brought us and another public holiday and reason to party. Maybe because our country has always manage to be in the headlines in foreign papers, for the wrong thing. 50 years of independence and we still have people thinking the way way a world class performer dresses is obscene.
Can we truly love a country that most students choose not to go back to when they graduated from oversea academic institution? Even if they do go back after graduating, most of their first choice is to go over to our developed neighbor instead of our forever developing country.
This blog was never meant to be heavy on political issues; and so it shall not be. Just think about what exactly you are waving that small flag for?
Tonight, is just another reason for us to get the one and only merdeka baby drunk and mission accomplished!
