Din Tai Fung – never leave taiwan without trying it if you are a first timer. In this case, Mrsmallface. We went to the Sogo Mall Branch as we do not want to miss our flight. Famous for the crazy long queue, we are no exception to that.

In Taiwan, I believe it’s quite sexist as you can witness how business will usually “exploits” women. For example, there is no waiter only waitress working. According to my uncle’s theory, at least when people get frustrated of waiting for their table, a nice female voice will calm people down better than a male. =.=

The skills of the sifu must be there as the basic standard to meet for each of the dumplings is to have 18 folds, when you pick the bao up, the skins is transluscent yet able to contain the soup inside the dumplings.

Before we had the Arashi Ramen, we already shared a bowl of the famous Ay-Chung noodle. At first we couldnt locate the place and we were wandering around for at least 30mins before someone allow me to ask for help.

We were quite blind for not noticing the crazy queue and crowd. Must be the heat!

Verdict : Okla.. Not a big fan. Tried it once, cross it forever on my “tourist” must-eat list.

So, 1 fine weekend after paying respect to the biggest King of Hades in BM, we went over to check this place out.

It’s already packed with people when we reached around 7pm. No table available and most table are with drinks only.

and patience is what you must have if you intend to take up the “challenge” of this place.

How this place works is that, you take a small plate at the side, choose whatever ingredient that you may fancy and pass it over to the worker and they will tag your plate accordingly.They have beehoon, maggie noodle and porridge with clear soup base or tomyam soup base.

and the wait begins. The first time i was there, i waited for about 1.5 hours to be served.

the 2nd and 3rd time was around 45minutes. So do not expect any fast food there.

If you are too free, you can slowly trace where had your platter advance from time to time

Finally, food!! I had the tomyam maggie noodle as i wasnt a fan of porridge. It’s more towards the sour side

Is it worth the wait ? Maybe not. But when you go with a bunch of friends, you can just idle there or chit chat while waiting. I’m sure no problem there.

Be sure to get the awesome fried fish and extra egg to go with your mains.

We arrived at JiuFen quite late in the afternoon after YehLiu. It was up on the hills so naturally it has a colder climate. Thankful for that

First meal – the original Taro Ball. But i dont like it! I prefer the sweeter version of Snowflakes. Most of the food in Taiwan are more bland on the taste. I dont blame them, as malaysia’s chinese cuisine are more towards Hongkong which generally comes heavier in taste.

I love this fried tempura stall. Like seriously love it ! When I place my order in English, an auntie standing behind me laugh. Apparently she finds it amusing to have someone placing order in English. -_____-

Marketing Gimmick. No idea what she sells are any good or not.

Basically how the whole jiufen is like. Stairs and slopes and narrow alley.

Plenty of doggies in jiufen!! Love it. I love how easy it is to bring dogs around in Taiwan. They are as easy and as common as handphones!  The dogs are happy lot to be living in Taiwan, I’ll say.

Last weekend, my friends decided to be adventurous and we started to drive few hours towards Sepang Gold Coast.

Our top priority for any road trip needless to say would be to fill our tummies!! No matter where!

First stop: Famous Pau Shop in Tanjong Sepat. Hai Yew Heng. The town ain’t big at all. You’ll deff find it.

Some uncle before us bought like 100 pau of the same flava? o_O We see them pushing few trays out within the few minutes we are there. RM2 per pau.. can you count how much they are earning per day.. $_$

You see all the auntie and uncles came by bus load hoarding in front of the pau shop buying pau. Because pau seems like the only famous and THING to see/buy here.

After we had bought some of our paus, we head over to a nearby jetty to feast. Not much photos, busy eating. Most of the finer images you see in this blog was taken by Duckie.

Lepak at some restaurant.

After that we went to Sepang Gold Coast only to get denied entry for not being a guest (reasonable) So we lepak at the beach next to the water chalet for about an hour before we got chased away by the guards again. This time not reasonable because he just picked on us. The other people loitering around was not being picked on. Reason? We are blocking the view of the patrons.. Duhh…

The said patrons are sitting above the patio. hmm.

By 7pm, everyone was famished again! We went back to Lover’s Bridge, Ocen Seafood for dinner and it was so packed. Waited and waited.. until we had a table and the storm just threw a huge fit!

We were like eating while soaking our feet in a pail -__-

Everything was not bad, the famous oyster fried egg was bigger than my palm. Haha! The clams in beer sauce was great and couldn’t remember the other dishes as we were eating in fear the whole place would just crash into the sea.

Did i not mention the restaurant was built on stilt above waters -__-

So gonna be a busy week. Actually halfway through, and I’ve already pulled my head bald already with the craziness at work.

Was having dinner with Nikki and DivaLisa at Gardens last sunday. The wait to our table was 15mins long which prompted us to pop into the cake/muffin bakery – Delectable, that we had heard so much about.

The owner herself personally came up to us and appears to be super chirpy. What’s left for the day, vanilla and chocolates flavour with chocolate > vanilla. However, Sue (owner) strongly recommend us to take 2 chocolates as she puts it ” I assure you they are as tasty as they look good”

3 muffin for RM28 is quite steep…

We (3 of us) prefer the vanilla much more than chocolate flavour.. The sugar paste/icing on the muffins are really thin compared to the rest we had tasted and that is why its not as sweet too. I like.

The vanilla had some lemon zest taste in it and make the taste “fuller”. While the cream under the icing for chocolates are coffee.

Icing + Cream + cake base = delectable taste! I’m not a huge fan over cakes and sweet stuff, but overall it’s good!

Back to Pulau Pinang for Merdeka Long weekend! Hooray for long weekend!!

I just had a FULL-FILLING weekend away in KL, meeting up with DivaLisa, TeongLi and dearie LadyCowmoomoo~!This is after all, a foodie blog. ;P

We “rise and shine” fairly early on Friday morning to play mahjong with LadyCow and eat KFC =.= that’s like 830AM..

Actually the real purpose to raid the Zara Warehouse sale But mission aborted when we saw the madness there. Damn, defeated even waking up so early. So we went around window shopping while the boy kept asking “when can we go ikea? “”when can we go ikea? “”when can we go ikea? “”when can we go ikea? ”

Girls: Oh, didn’t you know today is our day?
Poor boy: Then what about tomorrow?? when can we go ikea?
Girls: Tomorrow is bangsar boutique raid day!! None of the time is slotted for you *giggles*
Poor boy: FUCK THIS SHIT!!

Hahahah..anyway, after poor boy mops around for a bit, we being the ever nice girls, let him to ikea just for a bit while we find chances to take potential future house decor pichas

Then it’s chow time!! We tried pasta zanmai for the first, not for LadyCow of course.I’ll say its worth the price and a nice fusion too…hmm.. We had the set menu which has 2 dishes per set. We almost couldn’t finish all even those sharing among 3 of us. The whitish thingie is called Spring Egg which i notice was added into most dishes. The one in the bowl taste sweet and salty and it’s cold but it’s delicious if you are able to take half-boiled egg.

Dinner at Williams @ Taman Mayang. I know how many people will scrunch their nose when I mentioned this place due to their infamous hygiene level, but hey, what you don’t know won’t hurt. And, tell me which mamak doesn’t have rats running around?

I still love their food. They really do have everything and the portion is gigantic

The next day was MrSmallFace nightmare day!!! Because he had to follow us explore the many boutiques in Bangsar hahahaha Before that, I had lunch with DivaLisa at somewhere near Sunway Damansara. I shall call the char siew place as M&M because it melts in your mouth. YUMMEH! but i did not take any photo*bad blogger*

We also stumble into Wondermilk! And i almost bought a lomo but it’s out. How can?!?!

Desserts for the day..

Must have! Tiramisu from Alexis(bangsar)! Must have!!, Wondermilk pretty cupcakes, Brussels(JayaOne) Chocolate brownie.

At Alexis(again!) in the same day but this time at Ampang to meet up with Pomchak and several friends. It was my first time attending their jazz set and it’s great! We wanted to order the tiramisu again, but it’s out! How come the things i want is out again!!!

Before going home to DAP Island, DivaLisa, Raymond, MrSmallFace and me went for some pan mee…KIN KIN CHILLI PAN MEE!!!

In my first post on the pan mee, i mentioned that they served up damn fast. However, seems like the news had spread far and wide on this hidden gem. We had to wait over 45mins for our mee :( 7 bowls for 4 people. hahahaha

Since I’ve found some film seller in Penang, I’ve decided not to be too stingy with it. That’s what the camera is for.. Me and BFF, Me and MrSmallFace, lastly, MasterLong with our annual meetup

First day dinner we went to this place called Wang Sai after asking the locals on where’s the best place for food. From what we observe during the day, there’s not much local food around. It’s really a nice place, spacious and right next to the beach.While waiting for the food, we had our drinks. Beers at 50bht. woohoo!

Since it’s only the 2 of us, we had just a few dishes. The pineapple fried rice and green curry came first. They serve pretty fast given the number of customers they had that night.

Then the very well made squid. It has the right amount of sourness for you to wrinkle your face however balance it with the right amount of sweetness and spicyness! Yummeh!

The restaurant. We were stuff to the maximun by the time we are finished with it. Even so, we couldn’t finish everything The bill came up to about <700bht. Considerably cheap for all the seafood and servings. ahahah

For both day lunches, it was provided by the tour that we signed up for. No idea on that, maybe McDonald Pork burger at 150bht per set? Or for those who need their caffeine fix, there’s starbucks..hahaha. Second night, we wander around in search for some cheaper food.

It was actually quite hard to find authentic Thai food except for some stalls infront of Krabi Resort which closes by dawn. Most of the restaurants there cater for eurasions so utimately most of the food are Swedish, Danish, Italian, English and surprisingly the best food in AoNang is Indian Food!! =.=

Finally we found a small hawker centre like place opposite Krabi Resort again, just a little way up Ban Ao Nang Hotel. It is something similar to Gurney Drive, a tourist trap haha. All the waiters there are friendly as hell, genuine or not, i enjoyed it all together

Since we don’t feel like stuffing ourselves silly again, we had a small meal. Before that, our drinks again. Quite a wait as the place is filled to the brim..

Pineapple fried rice again. The staple seafood tomyam that you must have when you are in Land of Smiles. the delicious drumstick, simply delicious and of course some fried noodles for the sir. They are pretty generous with their ingredients.

It was a cheap yet awesome dinner that is cheap. Just 300bht for everything.

So on the last night in Krabi, we decided to try out the western food they offered there. I mean, if they cater to so many foregineirs every single day, it wouldn’t be bad food right. Plus, most of the restaurants are open and managed by “farangs” or foreigneirs themselves offering their country food.

After wandering up and down the strip of Ao Nang beach for about an hour, deciding and scrutinizing every restaurants, we finally settled for Jeanette’s Place facing the beach. It was fully packed (so is every other rest =.=) but we got our table quickly and served promptly. Although the thai waitress kept stressing that we order our drinks first.

The paintings hanging on the wall are up for sale. Creative huh? Anyway, the above 2 photos is to show you that there’s no asians at all~~!!

My swedish meatballs with cranberry sauce, mountains of mash potatoes and some brown sauce. The mash are absolutely amazing! I love it! We love it! I already am a big fan of Ingolf mash but this is just so much better! The portion of meatballs might look little but it’s damn filling cos its…meatball..hahaha

MrSmallFace’s chicken shnitzel(not sure of spelling) taste like any other shnitzel. Crispy, crunchy and fattening. HAHahaaha

For the meal, we paid less than RM55 for it. Not bad huh? and it tasted real good. Oh yea, inclusive of drinks

Last food tips and most important from Krabi that i can give it TRY the PANCAKE by the roadside! It’s so nice and cheap. And the way they make it is exactly like roti canai. except that they have a long range of top ups you can order. Most of it are just 20bht.

Emmmhhh, the chocolate and honey topping. We had it everyday we were in Krabi..hehehe

First i’ve got less than 24 hours to watch MRAZ! I’m so excited!

The deco is simple and can fits quite a handful of people. Since we have like 3 people only, we tried different stuff on the menu. They currently have a small range since they just started and i believe they want to focus on what they do best and deliver quality instead of quantity menu to us.

They don’t batch fry their food so please be patient and enjoy a chat with your fellow diners. In my case, DivaLisa prefers to reply her emails =.=

This is my order for the night, the signature Fish & Chips. I think I am allowed to make comment here as I tried the said #2 fish & chips from UK right?

You can either have it battered or crumbed. Mine is crumbed and it’s delicious. It’s definitely not like those paperthin fish and chip that you usually find in Malaysia. You can actually SEE pieces of fish beneath the crumbs and the portion is reasonable for the price you pay. Hmmm, and the things that reminds me of UK chips are the vinegar! How can you walk into any F & C shops in UK and not find a bottle of vinegar sitting on the counter top? Of course, I had my fries with plenty of salt and vinegar like i used too. Fuck the fats. For a long time, I really enjoy my fish & chips.. Yummy

DivaLisa chicken cordon bleu with cheese flowing out once she sliced it up. I didn’t try any of it as I’m too indulged in my own food. HA! But according to her, it’s good. You gotta believe her cos she’s a Diva in everything. If it’s good enough for her, it definitely would be for you.

MrSmallFace Blue Reef Fish Burger. Where can you find fish burger apart from McD? I took a bite and aih, it’s good too. The burger patties are thick like those you find in American chain restaurant. Even MrSmallFace can’t finish it. Imagine the portion.

Between us, we shared the soup of the day. Carrot and Ginger. Hahah. This is on the house as none of us actually like carrot nor ginger but Christopher made us tried it! It’s was creamy and doesn’t really taste of stupid carrots. It has a hint of spicy taste due to the ginger.

The soup is made fresh daily so remember to ask for the soup of the day when you there. Apart from the usual burger and fish, it also serves Pasta and Salads.

By the way, they have a lovely park just right in front and the Blue Reef is furkids friendly. You can bring your doggies out with you to this place, like finally in Penang yes???

Blue Reef is open from Tuesday – Sunday, 11AM-230PM and i think 6pm – 1030pm. Another special thingie bout this place is you are allowed to BYO wine

I will recommend this place to the people who really miss REAL fish and chips and people who wants to try the REAL fish and chips. Like how it’s serve in UK, the place it origins.

Things to do if you have only 2 days in Hadyai.

EAT much much food till you explode! Just tell the tut tut driver the name of the place, then he’ll bring you there. Hadyai is too small to be lost.

Try KanEng for the stir fried crab meat, tomyam gung and sweet&spicy deep fried fish. Must go 59 or Ha Sip Kau for the claypot flowercrab “tanghoon” i dono what issit called in english. sorry. Another must order at 59 is the claypot bittergourd pork ribs stew..Very yummy.. We also ordered something called KengSom, definately very “keng” because it’s so spicy no one are able to finish their own small bowl. Fyi, it taste like curry mix tomyam. Don’t judge it by my standard as i totally surender when it comes to spicy food. I don’t even take curry mee.

Ride a tut tut and feel like a local. Sometimes i feel i am in a car chase scene..Life threatening ride.

Be spoilt with cheap birdnest and sharkfins. Don’t get me wrong. I am very against people eating shark fin because i think it’s a very cruel thing to do. But I cant stop people from eating it except giving them a piece of my mind and stand back.

However, bird nest is diffferent..hahaha..1 bowl full of bird nest is only 300bht = RM30. fuckin cheap. Anyone can “rinse mouth with bird nest and have shark fins with rice” < cantonese saying.

Take in as much as local food again. It’s all about food~! Be a tourist. Do stupid things.

Local food to try at night:-

1. The super spicy beef/pork balls and sausage infront of Lee Garden. It’s really super spicy. The mild one is known as spicy sauce -.-| -.-|
2. The kaya/chickenfloss/butter and sugar bun infront of Pink Lady. The kaya is a MUST try. It’s so good!!
3. The fried chicken stall just next to bun stall.
4. The mango and sticky rice shares the same stall with fried chicken
5. McDonald samurai pork burger and the Shrimp burger. It’s so good!!
6. Swenson ice cream! fucking cheap tak boleh tahan

Go for thai massage~! How can you miss it. Just note the price is about 240bht for 2 hours full body massage. Since we were occupied during massage no photos. The obligatory Sawadee Ronald photo!

At night, go for some “show” (includes blowing horn, bursting balloon, firecrackers and coke bottle opening) ..go for a drink at the pub or the option we headed for.. playing games and team building in our very own hotel room

and Asahi beer at 350BHT, Smirnoff Vodka huge bottle at 680BHT… Will you not drink? Did you not see hoegaarden is just 130BHT? Honestly, even the holiest guy who claims he don’t drink will probably end up wasted sleeping in a corner while holding a mama instant noodle in 1 hand.

The night was fun. Bonding with your colleague with icebreaking games that need not use brains and the sole purpose it was created in the first place is to confuse you more. Photos are withheld… Here’s a very very adorable pomenarian instead
